Nakanishi eyes state tax board

With term limits forcing him form office, Assemblyman Alan Nakanishi is considering a run for the state Board of Equalization in 2010. There has been no official announcement, but Nakanishi has filed initial paperwork.
Bill Leonard, the current BOE member for District 2, is being forced out by term-limits.

School Board says continue legal battle over casino

The Amador County Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to say no to approval of a proposed intergovernmental services agreement between the Ione Band of Mi-Wuk Indians and the county. Trustees said their “strong wish” is to continue the legal fight to keep a casino out of the Lake Camanche area.

Amador Co. public health advises against canvas lunch box use.

Amador County Public Health is urging consumers to stop using canvas lunch boxes with a logo reading EAT FRUITS & VEGETABLES AND BE ACTIVE, after testing showed elevated levels of lead in three lunch boxes. Approximately 300 of these lunch boxes have been distributed throughout Amador and Calaveras counties at health fairs and other events.
