Decision to delay decision could cost dearly

A decision to wait until next week to decide on whether to accept an Intergovernmental Services Agreement (ISA) with the so-called tribe that wants to ruin the Jackson Valley by building an unwanted casino may cost the county the better deal.

Local votes should carry at least some weight

In a statewide referendum, how an individual county votes often gets discounted if the locals go against the prevailing statewide vote. At least that is the interpretation of some who are using the passage of Propositions 94-97, the Indian gaming inititiatives, to call for more casinos in the state.

School Board says continue legal battle over casino
The Amador County Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to say no to approval of a proposed intergovernmental services agreement between the Ione Band of Mi-Wuk Indians and the county. Trustees said their “strong wish” is to continue the legal fight to keep a casino out of the Lake Camanche area.
